About

I am a fourth year PhD Candidate in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech. My research dives into how we can best use geospatial tools and satellite-based remote sensing to learn more about Earth's precious freshwaters. I'm particularly interested in how river temperatures vary over space and time and how those variations are connected to changes in river discharge and management practices.

I am an applied geographer at heart. Over the years, I have worked on a variety of cool GIS projects. I've looked at tornado siren coverage, urban greenspaces, precision agriculture, and landscape ecology. I started my PhD journey after working as a GIS Analyst for 4 years in the midstream oil and gas industry. All in all, you can basically say I just love a good map!

If I'm not mapping something, tinkering with code, or making graphics -- I'm likely out taking my dog for a walk or hiking somewhere en route to my next trail snack.

Education
Anticipated: December 2025
Doctor of Philosophy, Geoscience
Virginia Tech
My PhD research uses satellite-based remote sensing techniques to bridge the divide between water quantity and water quality within inland waterbodies. Currently, I am interested in observing broad-scale riverine thermal regimes.
2017
Masters of Science, Geography
Oklahoma State University
Thesis: An Optimal Object-based Approach to Identify Urban Vegetation and Assess Change:
A Study of Oklahoma City, 2006-2013

My masters coursework primarily focused on spatial statistics, GIS methods, urban geography, and remote sensing.
2015
Bachelors of Science, Geography
Geographic Information Systems Certificate
Oklahoma State University
My undergraduate coursework primarily focused on physical geography, natural resource conservation, GIS, and soil science.
